Responses to "gift idea for new girlfriend"

   You say she’s your “new” girlfriend, but how long have you been going out with her? Also were you friends before hand or was she a “pull”? While we’re at it how old are both of you and what are your occupations?
   I’ll give you an idea based on the following assumptions:-
   1) You’re round about that ’studenty’ age (i.e. 18-23, at uni therefore on a budget)
   2) You’re still in that fun, ‘getting to know you’ stage of the relationship (normally first 4-6 weeks)
   3) It’s for some occasion such as her birthday or something similar.
   If it’s early stages of a relationship, then you don’t need to make grand gestures and you only need a small budget (£30-40 would be plenty)… what’s more important is the thought behind the gift. As you would still be in that “fun” stage you can try being a little cheeky (in a light hearted ‘tounge in cheek way) but show you’re sensitive and you listen to her at the same time.
   For instance, you say she’s into her cars… so if you know she has a favorite car then you can go and buy a scale model of it with some ‘ catchphrase on it… Say she likes Ferraris, go and buy a decent scale model and then with a card saying something like “There you go, your first Ferrari. Now don’t say I can’t make your dreams come true”
   Also, if it is her birthday (and you’ve got somwhere quiet) then you can show you care by being her slave for the evening where you’re like some kinky butler attending to her every need… occasionally girls just love to be pampered.

   You might find that a gift certificate from a good store would allow her to chose what she would like and at the same time always know that it came from you.

   Sorry ~ Gift certificates show absolutely no immagination and prove that you do not care enough to put some real thought into the gift. They are so impersonal I want to puke. They literally say “you are only worth $X dollars” (depending on the denomination of the gift certificate).
   My new girlfriend commented on a couple of pictures of roses I took last summer (won a blue ribbon at the county fair with one). I had them enlarged to 16″x20″, matted and put in frames that exactly matched the decor of her bedroom (how cool was THAT???).
   I will combine them with a bottle of her favourite wine, a nice pair of wine glasses and there you have it; Romantic, thoughtful and personal without going overboard.
   She gets to open up several gifts and has a permenant reminder of our first Christmas (not to mention showcasing my obvious photgraphic tallent).
