Well I would suggest you to go with a small cute teddy (soft toy), a card, and a rose… Also it would be a surprise for her if you give her a chocolate or a cake.

I agree, keep the price to $25-30 range. The jewelry idea is good, music (either CD, ITunes gift card or similar) might be a good choice too. I also know about rushing the expensive stuff too early, so you’re being wise to take it easier here.
My new girlfriend commented on a couple of pictures of roses I took last summer (won a blue ribbon at the county fair with one). I had them enlarged to 16″x20″, matted and put in frames that exactly matched the decor of her bedroom (how cool was THAT???).
